ANISUZZAMAN
Anisuzzaman’s practice is distinguished by its innovative approach to printmaking, where large-scale woodblock prints transform traditional techniques into monumental contemporary expressions. Working with life-sized wooden panels, he creates richly textured compositions that investigate memory, identity, and the relationship between the human figure and its surrounding environment. His practice expands the possibilities of printmaking, merging technical precision with sculptural sensibility and conceptual depth.
Born in Pabna in 1972, Anisuzzaman studied Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, graduating in 1993. He later earned a Master’s degree in Printmaking from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, in 1997, followed by a second Master’s degree from Tama Art University, Tokyo, in 2008. Between 2004 and 2008, he pursued advanced studies in Japan under the Monbukagakusho Scholarship, while also receiving professional training at Glasgow Print Studio and London Print Studio in 2004. These diverse academic and technical experiences have played a significant role in shaping his distinctive artistic language.
Anisuzzaman has exhibited extensively in Bangladesh and internationally through solo and group exhibitions, print biennales, and contemporary art platforms, earning recognition for his experimental large-format printmaking practice. His works are held in public and private collections in Bangladesh and abroad, while grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, and the Commonwealth Arts and Crafts Award have further affirmed his contribution to contemporary printmaking.
