AZMEER HOSSAIN

Azmeer Hossain’s practice is rooted in a contemplative exploration of memory, place, and the emotional resonance of light and colour. Working primarily in painting and print-based media, he develops atmospheric compositions that transform personal experiences into evocative visual narratives. His works are shaped by subtle tonal transitions and luminous surfaces, through which recollections of landscapes, cities, and fleeting moments become meditations on identity, movement, and the human spirit.

Born in Dhaka in 1976, Azmeer Hossain studied Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. His artistic practice underwent a significant transformation after relocating to New York City, where he continued his studies at the Art Students League of New York and worked with John Ruggeri at the School of Visual Arts. These experiences broadened his artistic vocabulary, leading to a visual language in which light, colour, and atmosphere became central to expressing emotion and memory.

Azmeer has exhibited widely in Bangladesh and internationally through solo and group exhibitions. His works have been featured in exhibitions such as From the Pages of Memory and Small is Beautiful, reflecting an ongoing engagement with themes of cultural exchange, belonging, and shared humanity. In 2022, he presented a major solo exhibition at Edge Gallery, Dhaka.

His works are held in private collections in Bangladesh and abroad. Through a practice that bridges personal memory with universal experience, Azmeer Hossain continues to foster dialogue across cultures while affirming art as a space for empathy, peace, and human connection.
