MAKSUDA IQBAL NIPA
Maksuda Iqbal Nipa’s practice is defined by an abstract visual language inspired by nature and the emotional resonance of colour. Working primarily in painting, she constructs layered compositions in which colour becomes the principal vehicle for expression, evoking shifting landscapes, atmospheric conditions, and states of introspection. Rather than depicting the natural world directly, her works distill its rhythms and sensations into immersive abstract forms that transcend cultural and geographical boundaries.
Born in Dhaka in 1975, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She later pursued a Master of Education in Fine Arts at Aichi University of Education, Japan. Her academic experience in Japan further expanded her understanding of abstraction and reinforced a practice that balances formal experimentation with a deeply intuitive engagement with nature and perception.
Nipa has exhibited extensively in Bangladesh and internationally through solo and group exhibitions. Her works have been presented at major institutions and cultural venues, including the Bangladesh National Museum, the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Japan, and the Las Vegas Art Museum in the United States. In 2023, she presented a major solo exhibition at Edge Gallery, Dhaka.
Her works are held in public and private collections in Bangladesh and abroad. She has received numerous awards and grants from Bangladesh, Japan, and China in recognition of her contribution to contemporary art, establishing herself as one of the leading abstract painters of her generation.
